Thomson Reuters Increases Dividend

In an era when big media companies — The New York Times, CBS, for example — are actively slashing or ending their dividend payments, one property is actually increasing its.

On the strength of better-than-expected fourth quarter returns, Thompson Reuters Corp. will raise its dividend payment. The company, which bought Reuters in April, reported a profit of $656 million in Q4, up from $432 million a year ago.

Not surprisingly, TR’s media division did see a five percent decrease in revenue, resulting primarily because of the soft advertising climate. The division, however, is responsible for a fraction of the company’s money-making capability.
