Thom Loverro Returns to <em>TWT</em>

Award-winning sports columnist and ESPN radio host Thom Loverro is returning to TWT. Returning after a five-year hiatus, he will contribute two weekly columns. His first column will appear Friday. “Thom has long been a respected voice nationally and we’re happy to have him back in our pages and on the web,” said TWT sports editor Mike Harris in a statement. “He’ll bring some interesting and distinct viewpoints to our readers.” Some background on Loverro...He is the author of 11 books and has been a professional journalist since 1977. He has worked for a number of publications, including The Baltimore Sun, where he worked for eight years as a news editor and reporter covering government, politics and crime. He moved into sports reporting when he joined TWT in 1992. At TWT, he covered the World Series, the NFL, NBA and NHL playoffs, world championship fights, the Winter Olympics in Japan in 1998 and in Salt Lake City in 2002, and the Summer Olympics in Australia in 2000. He has also traveled to cover such special events as the Baltimore Orioles’ trip to Cuba to play the national team in 1999. Loverro has won 30 national, regional and local journalism awards over his career, including first place in the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. He is also a three-time sports columnist winner in the Virginia Press Association competition. In 2009, Loverro was voted Maryland Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. In 2005, he was one of just three sportswriters to be invited to the Oval Office to interview President George W. Bush about baseball. Loverro currently co-hosts “The Sports Fix,” a sports talk show on ESPN 980 from noon to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. He will continue in that role in addition to contributing to TWT.
