There’s No App For That: Textbook Fire Burns Down Frat House

Digital textbooks got an expected boost earlier this week at Louisiana Tech University. Members of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity burned down their frat house last weekend while engaging in end of the year hijinks.

According to John Chestnut, the fraternity president, students were burning notes and textbooks in the fireplace when things got out of hand.

“I think some of the guys that were maybe doing an end of year celebration and burning some books or whatever, so we’ll look into that,” he said. Fire investigators are also indicating that there might have been issues with the chimney which might have contributed to the blaze.

The fire consumed the frat house as well as the apartment building next door. Both buildings were complete write-offs, and there’s no word yet on whether they’ll be rebuilt or simply replaced. Three firemen wer injured while fighting the fire

I know this seems like a strange post for an app blog, but I cannot help but wonder what would have happened if the kids had tried to burn their digital textbooks as well. Alcohol was likely involved, so it wouldn’t have been impossible for the frat boys to decide to burn a tablet.

I’ve seen what happens. It’s not pretty:
