The Wikimedia Foundation Hires a CTO

The Wikimedia Foundation turned to the world of open-source software in its search for a new chief technology officer, announcing that Danese Cooper will assume that post at its San Francisco office in February.

Cooper had been developing open-source strategy for tech start-up REvolution Computing, and she has also worked with Intel, Sun Microsystems, Symantec and Apple.

At Wikimedia, she will be responsible for developing and executing technical strategy and leading the foundation’s technology team, including ensuring smooth operation of its sites, such as Wikipedia.

Cooper said:

As a longtime Wikipedia enthusiast and supporter of Open Knowledge worldwide, I’m thrilled by the opportunity to invest directly in the evolution of the Wikimedia Foundation.
