The Washington Post Co. Buys News Aggregator iCurrent

The Washington Post Co. is dipping its toe into the news-aggregation business, acquiring iCurrent, an online tool that lets users create automated news channels based on their favorite topics, VentureBeat reports.

The purchase price was not revealed, according to VentureBeat, which added that the company has a staff of seven and is based in South San Francisco, Calif.

Washington Post Co. spokeswoman Rima Calderon told VentureBeat the company bought iCurrent for its technology and team, but she would not reveal what the company plans to do with it, and iCurrent founder Ramana Rao called news “a challenging and thankless space.”
