'The Source' is Done With Drama and Open to Pitches
The Source was the first magazine dedicated to hip-hop and hip-hop culture when it launched in 1988. After many years and many problems (from lawsuits to a grudge with Eminem), the publication is getting a fresh start with new owners The NorthStar Group and a new editor-in-chief, Bonsu Thompson.
“Understand the content that’s in the magazine. Nothing’s worse than a publicist pitching blindly,” Thompson told mediabistro for this latest “How to Pitch for PR” feature. With Thompson’s focus on both the present and history of hip-hop, brushing up on what the magazine is all about would be a good place to start.
