The Only Change In Job Openings In August: Color

The job openings rate remained at the low, low point of 1.8 percent, or 2.4 million jobs available in August, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The only change? The BLS press releases have started using color on their depressing graphs.

Behold:

If you don’t round the numbers off to the nearest .1 million, you see that actually the number of open jobs shrank from 2,408,000 in July to 2,387,000, or a net loss of 210,000 openings—but hey, that’s just peanuts.

Openings increased in construction, manufacturing, and in state & local governments month over month, but no sector had more openings in August than it did a year ago.
