The Onion has taken away all its newspaper boxes on the Upper West Side as part of its efforts to focus more on its readers in Brooklyn and in Manhattan below 23rd Street. The paper will still be available in high traffic areas like Penn Station.
The move has upset some displaced hipsters, as The Onion‘s distributing manager, Danny Zajackowski explained to Time Out New York:
Since the move about two months ago, I’ve gotten a lot of people calling in to say, “I live on the Upper West Side, and I still have a sense of humor,” so it’s nice to know that we have fans. I just have to tell them to go a little bit out of their way now… and hopefully they do.
