The New Yorker Adds Subscriptions To iPad App

Since it launched, The New Yorker has had one of the worst iPad apps. This is not only my opinion, the app has had very bad reviews. The reason being, you couldn’t subscribe to the digital publication for a cheaper rate. Instead, you have to pay the $4.99 cover price each issue. This is particularly annoying to print subscribers like myself, who pay way less than the cover price.

But now through iPad Subscriptions, The New Yorker is offering in-app subscriptions for either $5.99 per month for four issues, or $59.99 per year. Like a print subscription, it will include password access to the web-based edition. The subscription offering is in Version 3.0 of the app, which launched today.

The magazine is the first of the Conde Nast pubs to offer in-app subscriptions and we expect more to follow.

This has been a long time coming. Hooray!
