The CW to Run Full Complement of Commercials During Online Shows

TheCWVampireDiaries.jpgThe CW will run a full load of commercials during shows like Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl — online.

AdAge.com reported that the broadcast network will run the same amount of advertising during its shows online as it does over-the-air and, unlike other TV networks, its fare is not available via Hulu, so the ads are unavoidable.

An executive from The CW told The Wall Street Journal the move was first discussed at the beginning of the year, and it was not a response to Nielsen‘s plan to provide commercial ratings for shows both on-air and online.

Kantar Media said The CW’s ad sales fell 25.2 percent in 2009, to $590.5 million from $789.5 million, according to AdAge.com.
