The Atlantic Wins Magazine of the Year at the Ellies

The American Society of Magazine Editors made its picks.

The Atlantic takes home the American Society of Magazine Editors’ top prize of Magazine of the Year, beating out The Hollywood Reporter, National Geographic magazine, New York magazine and The New Yorker for the honor.

The prize was given out this evening at a ceremony at the Grand Hyatt New York and marked the 50th anniversary of the awards. ASME tweeted the results over its feed, just as it had announced the finalists earlier in the month:

Atlantic Washington bureau chief Yoni Appelbaum also slipped in the news in the midst of The Atlantic’s live blog of the Iowa Caucuses, writing:

Far from the Iowa precincts, there’s another contest underway tonight: the National Magazine Awards, affectionately known as the “Ellies.” If the Ellies are the magazine industry’s version of the Oscars, then Magazine of the Year is the equivalent of Best Picture. We’re still waiting to see who will win the Iowa caucuses, but we’re delighted to announce that The Atlantic has been named Magazine of the Year.
