ABC News is promoting two good men. Al Prieto will head up ABC NewsOne as vice president, while David Reiter takes control of ABC News' newsgathering operations. Prieto worked his way up the organization's ranks, starting as an intern on Good Morning America in 1983. Most recently, he was executive director at NewsOne.In his new role, he'll manage the news services of the network's over 200 affiliate stations. Reiter began his career at ABC in 1994 as a news desk assistant. He's also covered vice president Al Gore and served as the network's LA bureau chief. So what's the former World News executive editorial director's job exactly? "As vice president of newsgathering, Reiter will continue to have daily oversight of all of ABC's newsgathering operations." Well that says it all. October 1, 2008 AL PRIETO APPOINTED VICE PRESIDENT OF ABC NEWSONE; DAVID REITER PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT, NEWSGATHERING FOR ABC NEWS ABC News President David Westin announced two promotions: Al Prieto has been appointed Vice President of ABC NewsOne, and David Reiter has been promoted to Vice President, Newsgathering. Both report to Kate O'Brian, Senior Vice President for News. "Al's years as a liaison with the affiliates in multiple roles and his depth of knowledge of that partnership give him the foundation to further build upon these relationships. For David, this promotion recognizes the outstanding job he is doing in overseeing all our news gathering operations and the assignment of correspondents, producers, and crews from one busy news cycle to another," said Mr. Westin. As Vice President of NewsOne, Prieto is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the network's affiliate news service, which services more than 200 stations and clients, including the ABC Owned Television Stations and affiliates, BBC, Fuji TV, Associated Press Television and Univision. Prieto began his career at ABC News in 1983 as an intern at "Good Morning America." At GMA, he also worked in the research, booking, and Field and Series departments. In 1988, Prieto moved to NewsOne as a writer. Since that time, he has been a Producer, Managing Editor, and Director at NewsOne, in addition to his most recent duties as Executive Director. As Vice President of Newsgathering, Reiter will continue to have daily oversight of all of ABC's newsgathering operations, as well as the assignment of correspondents, producers, and crews. He will also continue to supervise the sharing of editorial information and production resources among ABC's broadcasts and platforms. Reiter started his career at ABC News in 1994 as a desk assistant in New York. He covered Vice President Al Gore as an off-air reporter in 1996 and also worked as an assignment editor on the National and Northeast desks. Following that, Reiter spent three years as deputy and then acting bureau chief of our Los Angeles bureau. In 2003, Reiter became a senior producer in the Special Events Unit, covering some of the biggest breaking news stories in recent years, including the 2004 presidential election, the death of Saddam Hussein, Hurricane Katrina, and the death of Pope John Paul II. He was also the coordinating producer for many of ABC's division-wide series and supervised several installments of the Emmy Award-winning series "Iraq: Where Things Stand." In June 2007, Reiter was named senior broadcast producer at the weekend edition of "World News" and Special Events and in December 2007, he was named Executive Editorial Director.
