Facebook is testing a feature that allows users to temporarily change their profile pictures and select the time to bring back their current profile pictures.

Twitter user @ForkToPen alerted TechCrunch about the feature, and fellow Twitter user Jennifer Ngo also shared an image of the “set a temporary profile picture” prompt.

A Facebook spokesperson confirmed the test to TechCrunch, saying:

We often see people use their profile pictures to support a cause, root for a team and commemorate milestones like birthdays and anniversaries. Today, we’re testing a new feature that allows you to set a temporary profile picture for a specified period of time. Temporary profile pictures make it easier to express who you are and how you’re feeling at a given moment, without having to worry about changing your profile picture back later.

The spokesperson also told TechCrunch the social network expects to roll the feature out to more users “in the coming months.”
