Ted Williams, the homeless man whose voice made him an overnight sensation last week, has decided to check himself into rehab after admitting to Dr. Phil that he has been drinking daily.

Ted Williams, the homeless man whose voice made him an overnight sensation last week, has decided to check himself into rehab after admitting to Dr. Phil that he has been drinking daily.

Williams has been through a lot in the past week including achieving overnight fame, being bombarded with job offers, becoming the spokesperson for Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese, and having a fight with his daughter about his drinking problem which resulted in police intervention earlier this week. Williams and his daughter were both interviewed on Entertainment Tonight about the altercation. His daughter claimed that her father was drinking again, “at least a bottle of Grey Goose vodka” a night. Williams denied her claim. However, USA Today reports that in an interview with Dr. Phil earlier this week, following the altercation with his daughter, Williams admitted that, “he has been drinking daily.”

A spokesman for the television show told USA Today that Dr. Phil has said that, “If Ted is ever going to get better, he’s got to be honest with himself and admit he’s addicted to drugs and alcohol. I’ve told him it’s not going to be easy and it’s going to take a lot of hard work. It might be a long journey for him, but this is a step in the right direction.”

I think that we’ve all been rooting for Williams since we first saw the video of him that went viral last week. However, it is clear that Williams is a man with a lot of issues that he needs to work through and Dr. Phil is right that he’s got a long journey ahead. A lot of fans of “The Golden Voice” were hoping to see Williams blossom and grow in his new career immediately, and it is amazing that within a few short days Williams already had paying work, including a Kraft commercial. However, even if rehab puts his voiceover career on hold for a while I think that the outcome in this story could not have been better.

Williams needs to take the time to work on himself and figure out his own issues so that he can move forward with a happy and healthy life. His overnight fame has given him the opportunity and support that he needs to finally turn his life around. I am sending all the positivity I can in Williams’ direction, rooting for him to get better so he can make the most of that golden voice.
