Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders Share the Top Spot on the Politico 50 List

Third annual.

The 50 in the Politico 50 list, now in its third year, isn’t people; there are more than 50 names in Politico Magazine’s collection of, as it describes it, “thinkers, doers and visionaries transforming American politics in 2016.”

It is instead an individual, pair or trio of people who embody one of 50 concepts or ideas. Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Bernie Sanders, who both occupy the number one spot, embody the idea of ideas. “It was their ideas that drove their movements,” the magazine explains. “And though the movements didn’t land them on the ticket this fall, they’ll be echoing through American politics, next year and beyond.”

Coming in at number two is Sen. Jeff Sessions and Stephen Miller, as “Trump’s policy whisperers.”

Black Lives Matter advocates and Campaign Zero co-founders DeRay Mckesson and Brittany Packnett take the number three spot. Packnett also wrote a piece for the issue describing how the movement got to where it is today.
