The total raised this year was $608,304.10, well above the goal of $450,000. Is CNN making a political push on The Situation Room? According to the latest Pew poll, Americans are split on whether the media should be praised or punished for the recent banking story. "By a margin of 50%-34%, Americans think that news organizations have hurt rather than helped the interests of the American people with these reports. However, an even larger 65%-28% majority believes that these news accounts told citizens something that they should know about." You can't really have it both ways kids. Jim Brady gives us an update on washingtonpost.com's search for a new Red America blogger: "We're still looking and have narrowed to field to just a few. Timing depends on other projects, but its probably a few months off from launch." Oh, and it won't actually be called "Red America." Hotline offers an update on tonight's CT coverage: CNN's Candy Crowley will be in CT; CSPAN will have live coverage from 7:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. with analysis from in-studio guests and simulcasts from WFSB-TV (Hartford CBS affiliate); FNC will have Carl Cameron at Joe Lieberman's headquarters and Alan Colmes at Ned Lamont's with updates throughout the evening; Chris Matthews will anchor MSNBC's coverage from CT. According to Nielsen Media Research data, "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" was the "top-rated network evening newscast, placing first in total viewers, homes and in the key demographic adults 25-54" for last week. The NBC release goes on the say that "Nightly News" attracted 8.388 million total viewers, 10% more than ABC "World News'" 7.648 million, and a 17% advantage over CBS "Evening News," representing "the program's best delivery in 11 weeks." Tucker Carlson takes issue with Bill O'Reilly's account an 18 year-old's rape and murder: O'Reilly: "She was 5'2, 105 pounds, wearing a mini skirt and a halter top with a bare midriff. Now, again, there you go. So every predator in the world is going to pick that up at 2:00 in the morning. She's walking by herself on the west side highway, and she gets picked up by a thug, all right? Now she's he out-of-her-mind drunk." Carlson: "So she's got a halter top with a bare midriff and she's drunk; therefore, she gets raped and murdered, as if that's natural? That's what happens when you've got a bare midriff and you're loaded? Not in my America, buddy." Oh, and watch out world: There's a "The Vote for Bret Baier Council" now in existence.
