  • The newspaper industry has experienced another hit with “discouraging second-quarter earnings results for several newspaper industry companies” reports the New York Times. The Tribune company announced yesterday that its second-qaurter net earnings dropped 62%. McClatchy reported steady second-quarter earnings of $44.1 million, but circulation sales, meanwhile, declined 4.4%. Media General said that earnings declined 47% from a year ago. While Gannett reported that its second-quarter earnings fell 8.3%

  • Simon & Schuster announced that Valerie Plame has agreed to write her memoirs, “weeks after a reported seven-figure deal with the Crown Publishing Group fell through,” according to the AP. Financial terms were not disclosed and no publication date has been set.
