Take a Selfie Inside the White House, Because You Can Now

But keep that selfie stick at home.

Appropriately enough, the announcement that effective today, the White House was ending its over-40-year ban on photography came via First Lady Michelle Obama‘s Instagram account. In a video posted this morning, the first lady rips up a sign prohibiting photography on White House tours.

Not only are visitors allowed to take photos and post to social media, they are being encouraged to do so, complete with a White House-provided hashtag, #WhiteHouseTour. The White House will be posting select photos on its blog.

While visitors can use phones and small cameras to take photos, they’ll have to make do without tablets, tripods and selfie sticks. Visitors will also have to find another place to experiment with Meerkat–no livestreaming allowed.
