Syracuse & Harrisburg Newspapers Announce End of Daily Distribution

When we heard of The New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper’s announcement this past spring about stopping its daily paper we didn’t know it would be a trend for its parent company, Newhouse Newspapers.

According to The New York Times, Newhouse indicated daily distribution of two of its titles, The Post-Standard in Syracuse, N.Y. and The Patriot-News in Harrisburg, Pa. will officially cease this coming January.

Although daily distribution will end, they will continue to have printed newspapers three days a week. The plan is for the papers to merge their content with local news sites.

Considering there’s been concern from readers, John Kirkpatrick, president and publisher of The Patriot-News, wrote a letter to readers. He indicated, “The plan to reinvent ourselves into a digitally focused organization with a quality print product three days a week is aimed at making sure that kind of work continues long into the future.”
