I don’t travel very often. But, it seems like every time I make one my infrequent trips by air, I keep telling myself that I need to buy a TSA-friendly backpack to carry a notebook or netbook computer. However, I finally recalled this advice to myself a few weeks ago and bought a SwissGear SA1908 ScanSmart Backpack in Black for $60 from Amazon. The backpack completely unzips down the middle to allow it lay flat and expose the compartment with a netbook or notebook to the TSA’s staff and scanning equipment. It can fit a notebook with a 17-inch display. So, my old 13-inch MacBook looks tiny is loose within the cavernous pocket. You can imagine what a 10-inch netbook looks like in there.

Ironically, I’m not even carrying a netbook for my trip this weekend. My iPad is going to in that pocket, however. The rest of the backpack provides quite a bit of room for the usual assortment of transformers and gadgets that tech fans tend to carry. I’m looking forward to testing it “out in the field” for the next couple of days.
