NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute has named Susana Ferreira the first recipient of the Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award. Ferreira has reported for Reuters, Time, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian and more.
The Power Award—a cash gift of $12,500—was created to honor the life and work of Matthew Power, who died in Uganda while working on a piece that required him to walk the Nile river with British explorer Levison Wood. It will be given annually to one young reporter who is researching an important story that highlights the human condition.
