Father’s Day and the Fourth of July dominated Facebook in June, and they did the same on Instagram, but in reverse order, according to the Hot Topics for the month from research arm Facebook IQ.

2018 FIFA World Cup Russia captured the attention of sports fans on both platforms, as the tournament itself was a Hot Topic on Facebook for June, while Instagram users chatted up the national teams of Argentina and Portugal.

On the entertainment side, America’s Got Talent and Chris Pratt were Hot Topics on Facebook last month, while Beyoncé, Ariana Grande and the BET Awards sizzled on Instagram.

The late Anthony Bourdain led conversation about people on both platforms.

Facebook users were hungry for Korean and Moroccan food last month, while burgundy wine quenched Instagrammers’ thirst.

Finally, Dr. Martens and the MotoRAZR were Facebook Hot Topics for June in the brands and product category, while Instagram users were caught up in Super Smash Bros.

Facebook IQ measured subjects that drove disproportionately high volumes of discussion on both social platforms, marking the latest in a Facebook-Adweek Hot Topics monthly series that began in 2015.
