It’s a good thing Judge Denny Chin said he needs more time to make a decision about the Google settlement, because he has got his work cut out for him. Yesterday’s fairness hearing gave him a lot more think about.

Andrew Albanese
, who’s been covering the unfolding court proceedings for Publishers Weekly wrote a piece focusing on the strong opposition expressed by the US Department of Justice at the hearing. Essentially, the DoJ’s attorney said that a class action suit was inappropriate and that even if Judge Chin approves the revised settlement, the DoJ is conducting an antitrust investigation and may still intervene.

Presumably Albanese attended the hearings–check out yesterday’s article as well as today’s coverage for a very thorough look at the proceedings. For a more general overview, check out this article from the New York Times.
