Stopping iPhone 3G iOS4 Indexing Speeds it Up a Bit, But...

Neowin.net reports that:

Sluggish iOS 4 performance on the iPhone 3G? We have the fix

The fix is to stop Spotlight Search background indexing on the relatively slow iPhone 3G (compared to the iPhones 3Gs and 4). I tried this (see screen capture above) and my iPhone 3G does seem a bit peppier although it still feels slower than when it was running iPhone OS 3.1. Neowin notes that this does not “harm” the 3G. However, it does mean that your iPhone may not index new photos, podcasts, email, as well as the other items that are normally indexed in the background.

If you stop Spotlight Search’s background indexing on your iPhone 3G, check out how new items in various iPhone apps behave after doing so.
