State Of Media Job Boards 2011: This Is Why You Should Apply For Jobs Now

Okay, so there are fewer jobs on major media job boards this month. Our data say it’s so. Here’s a chart, showing how the number of postings to a job board on a given day differ from the average for that year. (methodology)

But they’re only down a little. Common wisdom says that fewer jobs are posted during and around the holidays, and that’s true, but traffic to job boards drops off a lot, we’re told. So applying in December (before the January resolutions crowd really gets hopping) could be a huge gain for you.

According to our data, two major job boards (mediabistro’s and Journalismjobs.com) both have fewer jobs on them right now than they do at other points in the year. But bookjobs.com actually has more jobs on it than it did at the beginning of the year, and PRSA’s board, the job board for PR pros, is nearly flat.

It’s a little late to get hired for a January start, but don’t let that deter you from sending in a resume. Good luck.
