SponsorPay reveals new social/mobile demographics

Value-exchange ad group SponsorPay today put out a new infographic detailing the ongoing rise of mobile gaming, which also included information about who makes up the social/mobile gamer population.

According to SponsorPay, the majority of users (31 percent) play mobile games while they’re in bed, while 16 percent play during their bus and train commutes. For better or worse, it looks like mobile gaming is taking the place of bathroom reading, as SponsorPay reports 11 percent of mobile users play games in the bathroom.

When it comes to actual demographics, it turns out women play more social and mobile games than men, but probably not as drastically as people might think. Women make up 54 percent of social gamers and 53 percent of mobile. When it comes to mobile games, the largest age group playing these titles sits in the 25-34-year-old range. Social games are almost evenly split between 35-44-year-olds and 45-54-year-olds, who comprise 41 percent of social players; the former group made up 1 percent more of total social gamers than the latter.

SponsorPay also took a look at who plays the more popular social mobile games. Over half of Zynga’s Texas Holdem Poker’s players are older than 26, and 75 percent of users are male. FarmVille 2, meanwhile, has a 68 percent female player base and 80 percent of users are older than 25. Words With Friends’ audience is 63 percent female, with 70 percent being older than 24-years-old. King.com’s Candy Crush Saga had the largest percentage of women playing its game, 72 percent of users are female and 66 percent of users are over 26-years-old. Rovio’s Angry Birds Star Wars may have 60 percent of its players above the age of 25, but 50 percent of its players are men.
