New York’s The Dead Rabbit Named World’s Best Bar

Co-founder Sean Muldoon can finally sleep.

In a few short years, this Lower Manhattan joint has racked up a lively group of citations, beginning in 2013 with Best Everyman’s Bar (New York magazine) and Best New Bar (The Village Voice).

Over the weekend, The Dead Rabbit added the granddaddy of them all: World’s Best Bar. The honor was handed out in New Orleans as part of the 9th Annual Spirited Awards. From a report by The Spirits Business:

Sean Muldoon, co-founder of The Dead Rabbit, said when collecting the award: “For five years all I’ve been thinking about is winning this award. So finally after five years I can go to sleep now. Thank you.”

In 2013, The Dead Rabbit was named World’s Best New Cocktail Bar, while its head bartender Jack McGarry was named International Bartender of the Year.

Some other New York entities did well alongside the two-story “Grocery and Grog” at 30 Water Street. Employees Only won Best American Bar Team and Best American High Volume Cocktail Bar, while Ivy Mix – currently profiled in Brooklyn magazine – claimed American Bartender of the Year. The congratulations are rolling in at the Dead Rabbit Twitter end, and you can bet it will be an exceedingly happy L’Heure Verte later today.

The Saturday night Spirited Awards presentation capped a five-day food and drink extravaganza put on in the Crescent City by organizer Tales of the Cocktail.
