Spin Launches Licensing Store

Last week it was widely reported that Condé Nast was considering lending its name to branding, which would allow some designers to slap the name Vogue on their purses and handbags. A quick way to make cash, sure, but how good is it for the integrity of your magazine?

Spin, the 25-year old music mag, doesn’t have such moral dilemmas: today it announced the launch of an official Spin Licensing store, which will sell over 3,000 images from its archives. Looking forward, Spin hopes to do the same to their video content as well, including private performances in the Spin studios. Hey, it’s better than coming out with a Guitar Hero: Spin edition.

Spin Licensing Store to House Magazine’s Amazing Archives for Purchase and Editorial Use

NEW YORK, NY, January 15, 2010 — SPIN, America’s premier music resource, today announced the official launch of the Spin Licensing Store, a large database of more than 3,000 images from Spin’s vast archives, all available for purchase and editorial use.

The database consists of photos from both emerging and well-established artists drawn from Spin’s 25-year publishing history, including Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Grizzly Bear, Lady Gaga and Steven Tyler. Photos from the world’s most important music festivals—such as Lollapalooza, SXSW, CMJ, All Tomorrow’s Parties, Warped Tour and Austin City Limits are also available.

Users can visit http://spin.licensestream.com to access the entire database of photographs. Registering and creating a buyer account on the site are free. Additionally, Spin plans to license videos on the site in the coming months, including concerts performed in the Spin studios.
