Spike TV Moves On From Re-Runs To Series

Spike TV , the independent network that makes its name with lotsa wrestling (“Ultimate Fighter”), girlie shows and re-runs of “Star Trek,” is moving into the big leagues with a new TV series about the Irish mobs, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The network, which is supposedly targeting 18-to-34-year-old guy’s guys, has ordered a two-hour drama pilot from executive producers Dana White and Tom Lynch that will be directed by feature director Walter Hill.

The untitled project, from MGM Television Entertainment, centers on the explosive fallout when a Boston mob boss vacates his position and rival factions face off in a battle to control the streets.

It will be the first scripted project for White, who serves as UFC president and, whaddya know, hosts Spike’s series “The Ultimate Fighter.”
