Spanfeller Media Making Meal Out of Content

Spanfeller Media Group, former Forbes CEO Jim Spanfeller’s new digital media venture, is going after the high-end foodie crowd.

On Oct. 15, the company will roll out its first new content site, The Daily Meal, aimed at cooks, tastemakers, wine lovers and basic food enthusiasts. To shape the new site’s voice, Spanfeller has lined up Colman Andrews, one of the co-founders of Saveur and frequent contributor to the now defunct Gourmet magazine.

Andrews will serve as The Daily Meal’s editorial director, with former Forbes Traveler managing editor Valaer Murray taking on the role of managing editor. Clearly, Spanfeller is looking to establish The Daily Meal as a premium content destination—not dissimilar to several top food-themed magazines—in a ever-expanding universe of food and cooking blogs and video projects.

“We’ve cherry-picked the best talent in the field to ensure that consumers get the best advice for their palette, whether they are dining in San Francisco or preparing a meal for friends in Maine,” said Spanfeller in a statement.

Besides food-centric editorial, The Daily Meal will include restaurant and chef reviews, food travel recommendations, and recipes. There will also be ways for users to contribute content and commentary.
