South Korea Gets Mobile Hollywood Movies

Commuters in Korea, one of the most advanced markets for mobile phones, will soon have even more reason to keep their handsets fully charged.

SK Telecom has inked a deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment that lets it offer more than 200 hot Hollywood flicks, including “Spider-Man 3” and “The DaVinci Code” to its subscribers, The Korea Times reports.

According to the newspaper, the four-year deal calls for Sony to provide SKT with 50 to 60 new and back-catalog titles per year.
“We have already been offering several Korean movies on mobile phones, but this contract is different because of the brand value of Hollywood films,” the Times quotes SKT spokesman Lee Kyo-hyuk as saying.

In addition to worrying about battery life, consumers also need to make sure they have an unlimited data plan if they want to watch a movie on their phone or risk it costing more than buying a DVD because of data traffic fees.
