Audio platform SoundCloud is getting into the profile verification business.

SoundCloud said in a blog post Tuesday that blue checkmarks will now show up next to the names of verified creators on their profiles and in search results on the platform, with the aim of enabling creators to stand out and maintain their authenticity and helping businesses identify those artists.

The program kicked off Tuesday with eight of SoundCloud’s top performing artists, including Billie Eilish, Wiz Khalifa and Trippie Redd.

SoundCloud sought to eliminate confusion between the new blue checkmarks and its existing orange Pro badges, writing, “You’ll also notice that orange Pro star badges now live exclusively on the profiles of our Pro subscribers. We initially created these star badges for Pro subscribers to let listeners, fellow creators and industry contacts know they’re taking their craft to the next level—but often, the Pro badge was misused or misinterpreted as verification. Official blue checkmarks will help eliminate that confusion. Rest assured, if you’re a Pro subscriber. your status remains the same. As a bonus, Pro Unlimited users who apply for verification will also be first in line.”

Creators on SoundCloud must meet the following requirements to apply for verification:

  • The account must represent a well-known and/or highly searched for artist, collective, curator, DJ, label or podcaster.
  • It must be a unique profile, not a fan account or an impersonator.
  • The profile must not contain misleading information, and it must comply with SoundCloud’s terms of use.
  • It must contain a biography, a profile photo and at least one uploaded track.
