FreshPlanet has released its latest trivia game on Facebook and mobile, MoviePop. The game challenges players to guess the movie or actor based on 10-second movie clips. MoviePop is a follow-up to the developer’s SongPop (our review), which launched in 2012 to worldwide critical and consumer praise.

MoviePop allows players to challenge friends through Facebook or email, or challenge random opponents. Players choose a movie genre, from Science Fiction and Comedy to 2013 Movies, or even a more specialized category like “Best Kiss” or “Dance Scenes.”

In each game, five movie clips are played, and four multiple choice answers rest underneath. The faster players correctly identify each clip, the more points they’ll earn. At the end of each round, players’ points are compared and they’ll earn coins which can be used to unlock new categories.

“Thanks to collaborative partnerships within the motion picture industry, the game provides players with an extensive amount of content, terrific perks and ongoing additional features to keep the quality of play fresh and engaging,” said Mathieu Nouzareth, FreshPlanet’s co-founder and CEO, in a company release.

“Similarly to SongPop, MoviePop is the convergence engine for trivia fun and discovery by providing links to players who wish to make post-game purchases on iTunes and Amazon. MoviePop’s precursor SongPop fed iTunes alone with well over 15 million clicks and counting.”

MoviePop is now available to download for free on iOS and Android. The game is also available to play for free on Facebook. Check back soon to track MoviePop on AppData, our tracking service for mobile and social apps and developers.
