Cross-Border Duo Spearhead Somali Pirates Documentary
There’s so much great work being empowered through Kickstarter.com, the revolutionary crowd-source fundraising tool. Especially in the non-fiction realm. Currently, Stolen Seas, a feature documentary about the ongoing problem of Somali piracy, is halfway towards its goal of $15,000 needed for editing, dramatic re-creations and other post activities.
The heart of the documentary is on-the-ground footage shot in Somalia between 2006 and 2008 by Thymaya Payne (pictured), at great risk. Payne has partnered with a pair of Canadians – LA based actor-producer Andrew Walker and Toronto headquartered Heather Phenix – with the idea of having the movie ready in time for this fall’s Toronto International Film Festival.
