SOMA Messenger: Free Calling, Messaging App Launches on Mobile

The app offers free voice and video calling, as well as text messaging for groups of up to 500 people.

Instanza has launched SOMA Messenger on mobile devices, offering free HD video and voice calls, as well as text messaging for one-on-one conversations or group chats of up to 500 people. Developed by serial entrepreneur Lei Guo, the app promises to always offer unlimited free (and ad-free) service with no additional charges for international calls or messages.

After downloading SOMA Messenger, users can invite their friends to also sign up for the service. Users can send text messages to their contacts even if the recipient hasn’t downloaded the app, with these messages including a link for them to download SOMA Messenger as well.

Users can select from a variety of template status messages, and can track their usage statistics via their profile. Here, users see the number of messages, calls and photos they’ve sent and received.

Each message or call sent through the app ‘is handled by a server in the nearest country to the user,’ with content encrypted to ensure user privacy.

Guo commented on the app in a statement:

SOMA Messenger raises the standards of quality and privacy for video, voice and messaging while keeping it ad free and free of charge forever. We believe that the best things in life are free, and communication should be too … We’re still in the very early stages of experiencing what the messenger app market has to offer. Those that succeed are going to win on quality, speed and security. SOMA Messenger delivers on all of that and more.

SOMA Messenger is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
