Softbank, Telefonica Get Call from iPhone

If Apple sticks with its preferred one-operator-per-country model for the iPhone, then NTT DoCoMo and KDDI are about to face some fierce competition from Softbank in Japan’s mobile market.

Softbank, currently the number-three wireless carrier in Japan after DoCoMo and KDDI respectively, said today that it will bring the iPhone to Japan later this year.

According to Reuters, DoCoMo, which has nearly half of the mobile customers in Japan, has courted Apple to get the iPhone for itself.

Separately, Fierce Mobile Content is reporting that Telefonica has snagged the iPhone for the Spanish market.
