Now you can be annoyed by ads on Twitter in multiple languages. The social network Wednesday said that it would allow advertisers to target users based on their language. WebProNews Twitter is also providing language-specific analytics. “Language targeting can benefit marketers who want to reach a global audience with language-specific messaging, or who are in countries where large populations speak multiple languages,” explained Twitter’s Nipoon Malhotra. “For example, an advertiser who wants to Promote Tweets to Italian-speaking soccer fans during the World Cup can use Italian language targeting to reach the right users around the world.” Social News Daily Twitter said it determines a user’s main language not just by what they have their language defaulted as, but also by analyzing their tweets. Even more, if a user is bilingual, that user will be shown Promoted Tweets or Accounts in the languages that they use. The Next Web Other social networks have had this for a long time, so it’s not exactly groundbreaking. It’s more of a “finally” for Twitter, which probably should have offered the option to advertisers long before it went public.
