Passing 12M Users, Feedly Launches Cloud Platform and Web Version with One-Click Migration from Google Reader (The Next Web) Feedly, the company offering products and services positioned as the best alternatives to Google Reader, Wednesday launched Feedly Cloud, a scalable infrastructure that serves as the backbone to Feedly as well as multiple reading applications. Best of all, Feedly Cloud also powers a new standalone Web version of Feedly (no plugins or extensions needed) that also debuted Wednesday. TechCrunch The company first announced partnerships with RSS app makers Reeder, Press, Nextgen Reader, Newsify and gReader earlier this month, all of which are moving to support the Feedly API ahead of the Google Reader shutdown. Now those users can seamlessly transition away from Google Reader dependence, without any extra effort on their part. VentureBeat The new Feedly is now processing over 25 million feeds a day, the company announced, and billions of articles. Over 200 developers have signed up to get access to the Feedly API, the company says, and it anticipates announcing more “innovative reading experiences” soon. The Verge While Feedly was among the first out of the gate, it will soon have to fend off competition from Digg, which has built its own Reader replacement. Digg Reader shares the same design influences as Feedly and will roll out to the 17,000 users who gave Digg feedback on what they wanted to see in an RSS reader. CNN Previously, plug-ins or extensions would let users of browsers such as Chrome and Firefox access a version of Feedly, but even those patched-together versions weren't available to users of popular browsers such as Opera and Internet Explorer. Feedly Cloud was available Wednesday to visitors to Feedly's website. Photos Can Now Be Added to Facebook Comments (AllFacebook) Facebook introduced the ability for users to add photos to comments, product engineer Bob Baldwin announced in a post on his Timeline. Baldwin called the new feature “the most exciting photos feature I’ve shipped to date,” and he said it originated at a hackathon with fellow Facebook engineers Eric Faller, Zizhuang Yang, Ashwin Bharambe, Brandon Souba and Alex Madjar, with pre-launch help from Aditya Koolwal, Dan Muriello, Eugene Bogatov and Summit Shrestha. GIFs take up much more bandwidth than photos, and supporting GIFs could slow the site down considerably. Mashable Users can't yet leave photo comments within Facebook's mobile apps, but they are viewable. The feature is expected to come to those apps in a future update.
