Facebook’s Page insights now feature real-time data, rather than only being available for two to three days prior to the current date, and the social network said all metrics displayed in the tabs for overview, reach, posts and likes will now contain real-time data, except “where your page likes came from.” Page admins looking to the past can now see all data for the likes, reach and visits tabs back to July 19, 2011, the day page insights was launched, rather than the 89 days’ worth of data that were previously made available. The Verge In related news, a White House meeting meant to get technology executives’ recommendations on was pushed toward a debate over surveillance, The Guardian reports. Sources from the meeting, which included Apple’s Tim Cook, Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, Google’s Eric Schmidt and Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg, among others, say that the White House declared it would focus on the insurance site, but they didn’t let that happen. InformationWeek The executives reiterated objections to the NSA’s bulk surveillance activities, which they contend have undermined the trust of their customers and in some case affect sales prospects with customers outside the U.S. In particular are concerns over the way the NSA has apparently drawn information from their systems without their knowledge. USA Today All of the companies represented at the meeting also want to avoid being told where and how they can store their users’ data — and the NSA scandal touched off by the leaks of Edward Snowden has made that more difficult. Brazil represents one of the Internet industries biggest growth opportunities, for example — and one of its biggest NSA headaches. Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff — identified by Snowden as a target of NSA spying — has proposed requiring any company operating in Brazil be required to store its customers’ personal information in country. That set off alarm bells inside every Web company.

Lionsgate Hatches Plan to Turn Twitter Book Into TV Show (Mashable)
