Facebook’s sponsored stories have seen their highs and lows, with the lowest low occurring when the ad unit became the subject of a class action lawsuit, but they will be history after April 9, according to a list of breaking changes to Facebook’s ads application programming interface published on the social network’s platform roadmap. Facebook first mentioned the elimination of sponsored stories when it announced in June that it was streamlining its advertising offerings. Mashable Sponsored stories show when a user’s Facebook friend interacts with a sponsored page, app or event. For example, if one of your Facebook friends liked Nike’s brand page, and Nike chose to promote that interaction, you would see it as a sponsored story within your News Feed. Inside Facebook Advertisers will no longer be able to create domain sponsored stories (such as Amazon sponsoring a link a user posted to a product page) or open graph sponsored stories (such as Spotify advertising that a user is listening to a certain artist). Existing domain and open graph sponsored stories will end permanently after April 9. Initially available for iOS, this new feature will enable anyone to capture better six-second videos without viewers trying to decipher what they’re seeing because the lighting is terrible or the subjects are too overexposed.
