LinkedIn Pays $6M in Unpaid Wages, Damages (USA Today) Professional networking service LinkedIn has agreed to pay nearly $6 million in unpaid wages and damages to 359 current and former employees, the Labor Department said on Monday. The U.S. Department of Labor said an investigation found LinkedIn Corp. in violation of overtime and record-keeping rules that are part of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. Bloomberg Businessweek “Talent is LinkedIn’s number one priority, so of course, we were eager to work closely with the Department of Labor to quickly and equitably rectify this situation,” Shannon Stubo, a spokeswoman for Mountain View, California-based LinkedIn said in a statement. LinkedIn is also providing compliance training for its workforce and distribute its policy about working overtime. The Wall Street Journal Stubo said the Labor Department investigation focused on a "small subset" of the company's sales force in offices in California, Illinois and New York. LinkedIn said it had 2,400 salespeople as of June 30. Reuters The Fair Labor Standards Act requires that non-exempt workers, who are not salaried managers, be paid the federal minimum hourly wage of $7.25 plus overtime pay at the minimum rate of 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for hours worked past 40 in a given work week. LinkedIn's shares closed at $202.50 on Monday, up 0.4 percent on a day when the major U.S. stock indexes bounced back after Friday's sharp selloff. "This practice harms workers, denies them the wages they have rightfully earned and takes away time with families."
