Twitter, Facebook And LinkedIn: Social Media And American Identity [INFOGRAPHIC]

America loves Twitter and Facebook – a recent study showed that 79% of American adults are online and over half of all these say that they used at least one social network.

So what does social media tell us about America as a society? Are platforms such as Twitter a reflection of American norms, or is America increasingly being shaped by (the global) Twitter?

Social media firm Hasai looked at how America uses social networking sites and have presented the findings in this neat infographic.

Key takeaways:

  • The purchasing decisions of 38 million Americans aged 13-80 are now influenced in various ways by social media – this stat is up 14% in 6 months
  • 28% of US adults said they give advice about purchases on social networking sites
  • The most social states are (perhaps surprisingly) North Dakota and New Jersey
