Snapchat and the UN Are Teaming Up on an Earth Day Emissions Control Warning

An AR lens shows the effects of potential sea level rises by the year 2100

Snapchat and the United Nations are teaming up on Earth Day to give Snapchatters a look at what Earth could be like in the year 2100—and it’s not a good look.

For 24 hours on Monday, Earth Day, a lens will be available via the Lens Carousel for U.S. users, providing a glimpse of what the world could look like in 2100 if emissions are not curtailed.

Snapchat teamed up with the United Nations Environment Programme on the lens, which was created using Snapchat’s Lens Studio.

The lens will create an interactive experience via augmented reality, showing the projected waterline in 2100, as global sea levels are projected to rise to 4.9
