Skype for Android 1.0.1 Update: Less of Battery Drainer?

Skype for Android was only available for Verizon branded Android phones like the original Motorola Droid. Skype released a version of their voice over network app for Android phones available from other carrier just last month. Skype’s update adds a number of enhancements.

Skype 1.0.1 for Android

– 320*240 and 240*400 screen resolutions are now supported.
– Hardware back key is now supported.
– Signing out from Skype now exits Skype.
– Reduced power consumption in idle mode.
– Improved login stability and behavior.
– Improved performance with large contact lists.
– Reduced application size.

The support lower screen resolutions address some of the newer smaller Android phones. The hardware back key support is interesting it that pressing it causes Skype’s user interface to exit while leaving the part of the app that checks for incoming phone calls running. Skype claims that this reduces their app’s battery draining ways.
