SKDK Promotes Doug Thornell, Adds Bill Burton to Lead LA Office

SKDKnickerbocker has announced two moves in the past 24 hours -- the promotion of Doug Thornell and the hiring of Bill Burton

Thornell_DougSKDKnickerbocker, the DC-based PR firm that specializes in working for Democratic Party politicians, has announced two moves in the last twenty-four hours — the promotion of Doug Thornell and the hiring of Bill Burton to launch their Los Angeles office.

Hilary Rosen, partner and managing director at SKDK, sent an email out yesterday announcing Thornell’s promotion from senior VP to managing director.

“Doug is a talented leader who serves his clients with skill and complete media savvy and just makes all of our work better,” said Hilary Rosen, partner and managing director. “Over the past year Doug has led our work for Neustar, Palantir Technologies, DCCC, The Reproductive Health Technology Project and Tax Reform.  He totally deserves this new leadership role at our firm.”

Thornell was named a Politico to Watch by POLITICO in 2007 for “his messaging expertise” and has frequently made appearances on television as a political analyst, including MSNBC and FOX.

And in a press release earlier today, SKDK also announced the hiring of veteran Democratic strategist, Bill Burton, to lead their new office in LA. He will join the firm as a managing director.

Burton was one of the first brought on board during President Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, working as his national press secretary and then serving as deputy press secretary during Obama’s first term.

“We are excited to be expanding our firm and growing our team with a new office in California,” said Josh Isay, managing director of SKDKnickerbocker.  “Bill has been in California frequently for the past decade and since moving there two years ago has broadened his extensive political, corporate and community relationships in the state.  Bill will extend our presence in California by bringing SKDKnickerbocker’s unprecedented capabilities and experience managing a crisis, protecting a brand, advocating an issue and winning elections.”
