SideCar has acquired Heyride, an Austin, Tex.-based ride-sharing mobile app.
SideCar’s app connects private drivers with people who need a ride. Riders are encouraged to make a voluntary donation.
With the acquisition, SideCar will begin limited operations in Austin, Philadelphia and Los Angeles this weekend. It’s currently operational in San Francisco and Seattle, and has connected 100,000 connected rides.
In addition to putting SideCar on the ground in Austin for SxSW, the company cited Heyride’s design and user experience as reasons for the acquisition.
