Search through Instagram’s archives with Pic A Moment on iPhone

A new iPhone app called Pic A Moment allows users to search and browse the archives of Instagram photos and videos, discovering “photographic stories” that took place days, weeks, or even months ago. Want to find pictures of that great hockey game you attended? Simply search for the correct date and location and browse photos taken in that moment in time.

The app offers a calendar for choosing the exact desired date, and supports browsing back to September 2013, as of this writing. Users then type in their desired location, and the app pulls up a list of matching options. That is, typing just a city name like “Portland” would pull up a list of both matching cities and businesses or other attractions with “Portland” in the name.

Users can browse matching images either by their small thumbnails, or in full Instagram size, swiping left or right to navigate through the virtual pile. Each image is listed alongside the original publisher’s username and caption, and tapping on this takes Pic A Moment users to Instagram, and directly to that user’s profile page.

Pic A Moment was released in late November, but was updated last month with support for Instagram videos. The app is now available to download for free on iPhone. Check back soon to follow Pic A Moment on AppData, our tracking service for mobile and social apps and developers.
