Scrolldit Reads Reddit Better

It scrolls through Reddit and presents the links as pictures and video along with small text selections above the articles. Scrolldit even feeds Reddit ads. One commenter on a Reddit thread said, “It’s Reddit on Steroids!”

Without a doubt Reddit’s interface is not appealing – the design is too basic, but the company doesn’t have a high bounce rate and the platform is growing at a steady rate so why would they change?  For those of you who are interested in a better interface, however, there is a sister site called Scrolldit that turns Reddit into something more attractive.

Developed by Jonathan Bouman, Scrolldit does what its name says. It scrolls through Reddit and presents the links as pictures and video along with small text selections above the articles. Scrolldit even feeds Reddit ads. One commenter on a Reddit thread said, “It’s Reddit on Steroids!”

It automatically clicks through each link, so you can view what an article is about without having to read all the content. Scrolldit helps you get through Reddit quickly and efficiently without struggling to stay away from Reddit because it is so time consuming to view.

Bouman explained how his new product works on Reddit, “Everything is pure javascript and works on the client’s browser. Javascript connects with Reddit to fetch the latest posts, after that it checks if the post contains urls like imgur or flickr (if so it fetches the direct image src from those sources), it displays the results by using the masonry jquery plugin. You can view all the scripts used, just view the source of scrolldit.com”

What does Bouman get out of this application? Nothing, he receives no monetary exchange for such a useful tool.
