Schwarzenegger Praises Buchwald

From here:

Maria and I were so sorry to learn today of the death of our dear friend Art Buchwald, but knowing Art, he would not want anyone to shed a tear. Art faced his long and difficult illness with the same extraordinary courage and good humor that he displayed throughout his storied life. He not only made everyone laugh until the end, he was an inspiration to us all.

Art was truly one of the funniest people on earth, and he overcame a tough childhood of orphanages and foster homes to reach the pinnacle of journalism and Washington politics. His newspaper column was required reading for decades, and there are few people in history who can take credit for making as many people smile and chuckle as Art Buchwald. He was a deeply close and intimate friend to the Kennedy family for over 40 years.

We were able to visit Art during his extended stay in hospice and I know he and his doctors said they could not explain how he stalled death as long as he did with two failed kidneys, but I have a theory. There was just too much joy and life inside Art Buchwald, a man beloved by millions, to take him from us before he was ready.

Maria and I send our deepest condolences to Art’s family as they mourn the loss of this extraordinary individual. We will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
