Sasha Frere-Jones is joining the Los Angeles Times as a cultural critic at large. Frere-Jones was most recently an executive editor with the music annotation site Genius.com.
Prior to Genius, Frere-Jones was a staff writer for The New Yorker for more than a decade. He has contributed to Vice, The Village Voice, Spin and more.
Part of his duties at the LA Times will include helping the paper launch an entertainment vertical.
Frere-Jones’ appointment is effective July 27.
